Summer Maintenance in Extreme Heat

During scorching summer days, high temperatures and humidity pose serious challenges to the stable operation of machine tools. Please be aware that operating machinery for extended periods in environments with excessive heat (beyond the equipment’s rated temperature range) or excessive humidity can cause significant harm:

Reduced Accuracy: Prolonged high temperatures can cause thermal deformation of critical machine parts, directly affecting machining precision and product quality.

Increased Electrical Failures: High temperatures accelerate aging of electronic components. Overheating may lead to circuit corrosion or short-circuiting, significantly raising the risk of electrical system malfunctions.

Decreased Cooling Efficiency: Excessive ambient temperatures hinder heat dissipation in the cooling system, making it difficult to control core component temperatures, potentially overloading cooling devices.

Lubrication Failure: High temperatures reduce lubricant viscosity and accelerate oxidation, leading to oil film breakdown, increased wear on moving parts, and possible corrosion.

These issues can lead to a dramatic rise in equipment failure rates, unstable machining quality, increased unplanned downtime, and significantly shortened lifespans of key components—ultimately undermining production efficiency and product quality.To prevent machines from “overheating” and to ensure smooth production, please take note of the following summer maintenance tips for Shangming Precision equipment:

1.Control Ambient Temperature and Humidity: Maintain a stable and uniform temperature in the workshop. Avoid localized overheating or overcooling. Operating within the recommended environmental parameters ensures optimal machine performance and accuracy. Use air conditioners or industrial fans for temperature and humidity control.

2.Ensure Proper Electrical Cabinet Ventilation: Regularly check that fans and air conditioners (if equipped) in the electrical control cabinet are functioning properly. Clean dust and debris from ventilation grilles and filters to ensure effective heat dissipation and prevent damage or alarms due to overheating.

3.Watch for Condensation Hazards: In hot and humid environments, condensation may form in coolant pipelines, especially in low-temperature areas. Regularly check insulation and promptly wipe off any condensation to prevent it from dripping into electrical cabinets, circuit boards, or sensors, which may cause short circuits or corrosion.

4.Monitor Cooling Systems:

Oil/Water Chillers: Check for normal operation (pressure, flow rate, temperature). Clean radiator surfaces regularly to maintain cooling efficiency.

Hydraulic Cooling: Check the performance of cooling devices such as fans and heat exchangers. Clean radiator fins periodically.

Important Note: High temperatures accelerate hydraulic oil degradation and viscosity changes, potentially triggering alarms or failures. Refer to the maintenance manual for oil quality inspection and replace oil early if needed.

Strengthen Lubrication Monitoring: Heat reduces lubricant viscosity and accelerates oxidation. Pay close attention to lubrication status of moving parts such as guideways and spindles. Ensure the automatic lubrication system is working and oil levels are sufficient. Depending on conditions and lubricant type, lubrication intervals may need to be shortened.

Typhoon and Flood Season Protection（Preventive Measures Before the Storm）

1.Comprehensive Safety Inspection and Reinforcement:

Before a typhoon arrives, please conduct a thorough safety check of the plant:

Focus on the structural integrity of doors, windows, outdoor sheds, and external attachments such as signage and pipe brackets to ensure they can withstand strong winds.

Inspect and clear all drainage systems inside and around the plant to prevent waterlogging or backflow.

Check waterproof sealing and safety of power lines and electrical boxes to avoid short circuits or electric shocks.

Assess environmental risks around the factory, such as nearby rivers or slopes, to guard against secondary disasters like floods or landslides caused by typhoon rainstorms.

2.Respond to Warnings and Adjust Production:

Closely monitor weather alerts and strictly follow directives from national and local emergency management authorities. When the alert reaches a certain level, adjust production plans promptly. Suspend operations if necessary to prioritize personnel safety.

Post-Typhoon Response – If Flooding Occurs

If your machine tools are unfortunately submerged or come into contact with water, do not power them on under any circumstances. Please follow these steps and contact Shangming Precision’s after-sales service immediately:

1.Power Off Immediately: Cut off all power to the machine tool and any connected devices.

2.Professional Inspection First: This is critical! Do not attempt to power on or operate the equipment. Call Shangming Precision after-sales service for a professional assessment.

3.Thorough Cleaning and Drying: While waiting for a service engineer or under their guidance, you may begin initial cleaning:

Carefully remove visible mud and debris from the machine’s surface and interior. Key areas (such as guideways, ball screws, electrical cabinets, and filter screens on top-mounted resistor boxes) must be deeply cleaned and dismantled if necessary.

Use dry, oil-free compressed air or professional drying equipment to thoroughly dry all components, especially electrical parts, connectors, cables, and system modules. This step is vital and must be done patiently and carefully.

4.Rust Prevention and Lubrication: Once everything is fully dry, reapply Shangming Precision’s recommended lubricants or greases to all moving components (guideways, ball screws, bearings, etc.) to prevent rust and protect precision.

5.Replace Contaminated Fluids: Replace all hydraulic oils, greases, and coolants that may have been contaminated with water. Be sure to thoroughly wipe the inside of the oil tank with clean cotton cloths before refilling.
